Bobby Fong, President of Butler University in Indiana, will present on his experiences as a first generation Chinese American who has succeeded in becoming the head of a nationally recognized, private university in the Midwest. Through his experiences, he will address the obstacles Asian Americans and members of immigrant families have to overcome in academic and work settings. Additionally, he will share his perceptions on how the Asian American identity has evolved during his lifetime. |

"Dam/Age" is a documentary that ties the protests against the dams being built by the Indian government along with the personal story of Arundhati Roy, who faces a prison sentence because of her activism and criticism of the government. Dr. Mab Segrest, gender and women's studies professor, will facilitate a discussion following the movie. |

This is the story of the Vietnamese women who lived in the underground tunnel systems and raised their children while their land was being bombed. These women were not victims but active participants in the war and in the efforts to restore peace to their land. Professor Donald Peppard, will facilitate a discussion following the movie. |

Keynote Speaker Surina Khan: Boundaries in Question, Traveling Between Cultures
1941 Room
This talk will explore formations of home and culture as they relate to boundaries, borders and nationalisms in the current climate of war and violence. Surina Khan will relate these ideas to her own experiences as a Pakistani-born American, a lesbian, a Muslim, a feminist and a sexual rights activist. Khan served as the Executive Director of the International Gay & Lesbian Human Rights Commission, an organization that works to secure the human rights of people subject to discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or HIV status. She also worked with an independent research center that monitors and analyzes anti-democratic, authoritarian, and racist movements and trends. She is currently working on a book. |
